1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
4 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Task Force on Organic
5 Farming is created (i) to study the feasibility of creating
6 an Illinois program of organic standards and certification,
7 (ii) to examine organic standards of other states, including
8 the 1998 Iowa standards, and (iii) to review the pending USDA
9 federal organic standards; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That the Task Force consist of the following
11 members:
12 (1) the Director of Agriculture, or his or her designee,
13 serving as chairman of the Task Force;
14 (2) one member of the House Agriculture Committee,
15 appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives;
16 (3) one member of the Senate Agriculture Committee,
17 appointed by the President of the Senate; and
18 (4) one representative of the Illinois Farm Bureau, one
19 representative of the Illinois Farmer's Union, 2
20 representatives of the Organic Crop Improvement Association,
21 and one representative of consumer advocates, each appointed
22 jointly by the Task Force chairman and the Task Force's
23 legislative members; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That the Task Force seek the assistance of the
25 Department of Agriculture in the performance of its duties;
26 and be it further
27 RESOLVED, That Task Force members receive no compensation
28 but may be reimbursed for their actual and necessary expenses
29 from funds appropriated for that purpose; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That the Task Force report its findings to the
31 General Assembly by December 31, 2000; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
2 the Director of Agriculture.
