1 AN ACT to amend the Attorney General Act.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Attorney General Act is amended by adding
5 Section 4e as follows:
6 (15 ILCS 205/4e new)
7 Sec. 4e. Recovery of lands; payment of legal fees. At
8 the request of the Governor, the Attorney General may select
9 and pay or reimburse reasonable and appropriate fees and
10 expenses of counsel to provide for the defense of any action
11 or proceeding (1) brought to recover lands within the State
12 from any individual who currently holds title or a beneficial
13 interest in title that originally derives from a federal land
14 patent that is alleged to be invalid and (2) that the
15 Attorney General determines could result in the loss of State
16 sovereignty or jurisdiction over such lands or liability for
17 rents or damages accruing as a result of invalidity of the
18 federal land patent.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20 becoming law.
