1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by changing
2 Section 12-611.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
6 changing Section 12-611 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 5/12-611) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-611)
8 Sec. 12-611. No driver of any motor vehicle within this
9 State shall operate or permit operation of any sound
10 amplification system which can be heard outside the vehicle
11 from 75 or more feet when the vehicle is being operated upon
12 a highway, unless such system is being operated to request
13 assistance or warn of a hazardous situation.
14 This Section does not apply to authorized emergency
15 vehicles or any vehicle whose operator possesses a permit
16 issued by a unit of local government to exceed the sound
17 level allowed by this Section within the boundaries of the
18 unit of local government vehicles engaged in advertising.
19 Any violation of the provisions of this Section shall be
20 a petty offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $50.
