 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3225

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill  3225  on  page  1,
 3    line 1, by deleting "compensation of"; and

 4    on  page  1,  line  6,  by  replacing  "Section  3-7003" with
 5    "Sections 3-7002 and 3-7003"; and

 6    on page 1, by inserting below line 6 the following:

 7        "(55 ILCS 5/3-7002) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-7002)
 8        Sec. 3-7002.  Cook County Sheriff's Merit Board. There is
 9    created the Cook County Sheriff's  Merit  Board,  hereinafter
10    called  the Board, consisting of 7 5 members appointed by the
11    Sheriff with the advice and  consent  of  the  county  board,
12    except   that  on  and  after  the  effective  date  of  this
13    amendatory Act of 1997, the Sheriff may appoint 2  additional
14    members,  with the advice and consent of the county board, at
15    his or her discretion.  Of the members first  appointed,  one
16    shall  serve  until the third Monday in March, 1965 one until
17    the third Monday in March, 1967,  and  one  until  the  third
18    Monday  in  March,  1969.  Of  the 2 additional members first
19    appointed under authority of this amendatory Act of 1991, one
20    shall serve until the third Monday in March,  1995,  and  one
21    until  the  third  Monday in March, 1997. Of the 2 additional
22    members  first  appointed  under  the   authority   of   this

 1    amendatory Act of  the 91st General Assembly, one shall serve
 2    until  the  third  Monday in March, 2005 and  one shall serve
 3    until the third Monday in March, 2006.
 4        Upon the expiration of the terms of office of those first
 5    appointed (including the 2 additional members first appointed
 6    under authority of this amendatory Act of 1991 and under  the
 7    authority   of  this  amendatory  Act  of  the  91st  General
 8    Assembly), their respective successors shall be appointed  to
 9    hold  office  from  the  third Monday in March of the year of
10    their respective appointments for a term of 6 years and until
11    their successors are appointed and qualified for a like term.
12    As additional members are appointed under authority  of  this
13    amendatory  Act  of  1997,  their  terms  shall  be set to be
14    staggered consistently with the terms of the  existing  Board
15    members.  No  more  than  3  members  of  the  Board shall be
16    affiliated with the same  political  party,  except  that  as
17    additional   members  are  appointed  by  the  Sheriff  under
18    authority of this  amendatory  Act  of  1997  and  under  the
19    authority  of  this  amendatory Act of 91st General Assembly,
20    the political affiliation of the Board shall be such that  no
21    more  than one-half of the members plus one additional member
22    may be affiliated with the same political party.   No  member
23    shall  have  held  or  have  been a candidate for an elective
24    public  office  within  one  year  preceding   his   or   her
25    appointment.
26        The Sheriff may deputize members of the Board.

29    on page  1,  by  replacing  lines  16  through  19  with  the
30    following:
31    "more  than  $30,000  in  any  fiscal year. Such compensation
32    expenses shall".
