1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Groundwater Protection Act
2 by changing Section 6.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Groundwater Protection Act is
6 amended by changing Section 6 as follows:
7 (415 ILCS 55/6) (from Ch. 111 1/2, par. 7456)
8 Sec. 6. Groundwater protection education program.
9 (a) The Department with the cooperation of the Agency,
10 the Department of Public Health, the Department of
11 Agriculture and others as needed, shall develop, coordinate
12 and conduct an education program for groundwater protection.
13 The program shall include, but not be limited to, education
14 for the general public, business, agriculture, government,
15 and private water supply owners, users and operators.
16 (b) The education program shall address at least the
17 following topics: hydrogeologic principles, groundwater
18 protection issues, State groundwater policy, potential
19 contamination sources, potential water quality problems, well
20 protection measures, and the need for periodic well tests.
21 (c) The Department shall cooperate with local
22 governments and regional planning agencies and committees to
23 coordinate local and regional education programs and
24 workshops, and to expedite the exchange of technical
25 information.
