1 AN ACT to amend the Election Code by changing Section
2 9-1.3.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
6 Section 9-1.3 as follows:
7 (10 ILCS 5/9-1.3) (from Ch. 46, par. 9-1.3)
8 Sec. 9-1.3. Candidate. "Candidate" means any person who
9 seeks nomination for election, election to or retention in
10 public office, or any person who seeks election as ward or
11 township committeeman in counties of 3,000,000 or more
12 population, whether or not such person is elected. A person
13 seeks nomination for election, election or retention if he
14 (1) takes the action necessary under the laws of this State
15 to attempt to qualify for nomination for election, election
16 to or retention in public office or election as ward or
17 township committeeman in counties of 3,000,000 or more
18 population, or (2) receives contributions or makes
19 expenditures, or gives consent for any other person to
20 receive contributions or make expenditures with a view to
21 bringing about his nomination for election or election to or
22 retention in public office, or his or her election as ward or
23 township committeeman in counties of 3,000,000 or more
24 population.
