1 AN ACT to amend the Criminal Code of 1961 by changing
2 Section 7-1.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by
6 changing Section 7-1 as follows:
7 (720 ILCS 5/7-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 7-1)
8 Sec. 7-1. Use of force in defense of person.
9 A person is justified in the use of force against another
10 when and to the extent that he or she reasonably believes
11 that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or another
12 against such other's imminent use of unlawful force. However,
13 he is justified in the use of force which is intended or
14 likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if he
15 reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent
16 imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or another, or
17 the commission of a forcible felony.
