CD CORR-SILENCERS-NO PROBATION                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  Increases  the  penalties  for      
   the  sale, manufacture, purchase, possessing, or carrying of sawed-off      
   rifles or sawed-off shotguns, bombs,  molotov  cocktails,  or  certain      
   explosives  from  a  Class  3  to  a Class 2 felony. If the offense is      
   committed in, on, or on a  public  way  of  schools,  public  housing,      
   courthouses,  or  public  parks  it  is  a  Class 1 felony. Amends the      
   Unified Code of Corrections.  Provides  that  a  person  convicted  of      
   unlawful  use  of  weapons  by  possessing a silencer or certain other      
   weapons (sawed off  shotguns,  sawed  off  rifles,  machine  guns,  or      
   certain   explosives)  is  not  eligible  for  probation,  conditional      
   discharge, or periodic imprisonment.  Effective immediately.
