 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of  the  death  of  Mrs.  Josephine   Kneidle   Oblinger   of
 4    Williamsville,   former   State  Representative,  on  Sunday,
 5    September 27, 1998; and
 6        WHEREAS, She was born in Chicago on  February  14,  1913,
 7    the  daughter  of  John and Mabel Kneidle Harrington; she was
 8    married to Walter L. Oblinger, who died in 1990; and
 9        WHEREAS, She was a graduate of the University of Illinois
10    with a bachelor's degree in education, cum  laude,  and  from
11    the  University of Detroit Law School, J.D., magna cum laude,
12    in 1943; and
13        WHEREAS, In 1943, she worked in the Legal Aid  Bureau  in
14    Detroit,  from  1951  to  1962  she  taught  at Lanphier High
15    School, and from 1977 to 1978 she served as the  director  of
16    the Illinois Department on Aging; and
17        WHEREAS,  From  1979  to  1982  she  served  as the State
18    Representative in the 50th district and from 1983 to 1985  as
19    State Representative in the 100th district; and
20        WHEREAS,  She  was  awarded  the Salvation Army's highest
21    award,  the  William  Booth  Others  Award   in   1985;   the
22    Springfield  Women's  Political Caucus Elizabeth Cady Stanton
23    Award in 1990; entered the Illinois Senior Citizens  Hall  of
24    Fame in 1994; was named an Illinois Treasurer by the Illinois
25    Alliance  for  Aging  in  1996;  served  as  president of the
26    Illinois Federation of  Teachers  from  1959-63;  and  was  a
27    delegate and chairman of Older Women's Concerns Committee for
28    the 1981 White House Conference on Aging; and
29        WHEREAS,  Her  passing  will be deeply felt by her family
30    and friends, especially her son, Carl;  her  daughter-in-law,
31    Marge;   two   grandchildren;   and   two  stepgrandchildren;

 1    therefore, be it
 2        RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
 3    OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow and regret
 4    the death of Mrs. Josephine Kneidle Oblinger and  extend  our
 5    most sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it
 6    further
 7        RESOLVED,  That  a suitable copy of this resolution shall
 8    be presented to her son, Carl Oblinger.
