 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS, The Senate has learned with deep sorrow  of  the
 3    death of a dedicated public servant and community leader, Mr.
 4    Robert B. Oxtoby of Springfield, Illinois; and
 5        WHEREAS,  A native of Huron, South Dakota, Mr. Oxtoby was
 6    born May 8, 1921, to Frederic and Freida Boynton Oxtoby; and
 7        WHEREAS, He attended  Illinois  College,  graduated  from
 8    Carleton   College,   and   earned  a  juris  doctorate  from
 9    Northwestern University School of Law; and
10        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Oxtoby's  distinguished  career   in   the
11    practice  of  law included his partnership in the Springfield
12    firm of Vanmeter, Oxtoby and Funk Lawyers and service  as  an
13    assistant State's Attorney, assistant United States Attorney,
14    and special assistant to the Attorney General; and
15        WHEREAS,  Having  served  in  World  War II in the United
16    States  Marine  Corps,  he  displayed  a   civic   commitment
17    throughout  his  life  as  chairman  of  the Illinois Capital
18    Development Board, a director of First  of  America  Bank,  a
19    board   member  of  Downtown  Park  Inc.,  and  an  executive
20    committee member of Memorial Medical Center  of  Springfield;
21    and
22        WHEREAS,  With  the  former  Carolyn  Bartholf,  whom  he
23    married in 1956, Mr. Oxtoby shared the joys and challenges of
24    a  family  that  includes  3 children and 2 grandchildren and
25    enriched the lives of all who were privileged  to  know  him;
26    therefore, be it
27        RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
28    OF  THE  STATE  OF  ILLINOIS,  that  we mark with sadness the
29    passing of Mr. Robert B. Oxtoby, a man whose life personified
30    excellence  in  his  profession  and  noble  service  to  the
31    citizens of this State, and  that  we  convey  our  heartfelt

 1    sympathy to his family and friends; and be it further
 2        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 3    presented to Mrs. Robert Oxtoby.
