      210 ILCS 85/17 new
          Amends the Hospital Licensing Act.  Authorizes  hospitals
      to grant staff privileges to licensed clinical psychologists.

 1        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  Hospital Licensing Act by adding
 2    Section 17.
 3        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section  5.  The  Hospital  Licensing  Act  is amended by
 6    adding Section 17 as follows:
 7        (210 ILCS 85/17 new)
 8        Sec.   17.  Licensed   clinical   psychologists;    staff
 9    membership.
10        (a)  A  hospital  may  choose  to  grant  to  a  clinical
11    psychologist   licensed   under   the  Clinical  Psychologist
12    Licensing Act an opportunity to obtain hospital medical staff
13    privileges to admit, treat, and discharge patients within the
14    scope of the license for the practice of clinical psychology.
15    A hospital may determine whether  the  applicant's  training,
16    experience,  and  demonstrated  competence  are sufficient to
17    justify the  granting  of  medical  staff  privileges  or  of
18    limited medical staff privileges.
19        (b)  If   a   hospital  grants  a  clinical  psychologist
20    licensed  under  the  Clinical  Psychologist  Licensing   Act
21    medical  staff privileges or limited medical staff privileges
22    under subsection (a), the psychologist or the hospital shall,
23    before or at the time of hospital  admission  of  a  patient,
24    identify   an  appropriate  physician  licensed  to  practice
25    medicine in all its branches with admitting privileges at the
26    hospital who shall be responsible for the medical  evaluation
27    and medical management of the patient for the duration of his
28    or her hospitalization.
