1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are happy to recognize
3 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the
4 well-being of the citizens of this State; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Elaine Swope
6 has announced her retirement as McLean County Auditor, a
7 position she has held since November of 1976; and
8 WHEREAS, Born in 1938 and raised on a farm in McLean
9 County, she graduated from Normal Community High School; and
10 WHEREAS, In her early working years, she was a bookkeeper
11 and secretary at the Gailey Eye Clinic and later a bookkeeper
12 at the Hudson Grain Company; and
13 WHEREAS, In 1968, she was elected Village Clerk of
14 Hudson; she worked as Deputy Auditor since 1973 and was
15 promoted to Chief Deputy; then she was elected McLean County
16 Auditor; and
17 WHEREAS, She was appointed by Governor James Thompson to
18 serve on the State's Local Record Commission in April of
19 1977; and
20 WHEREAS, She has been a member of the Illinois
21 Association of County Auditors and Finance Officers and the
22 Municipal Finance Officers Association; and
23 WHEREAS, She has been affiliated with the Charter Chapter
24 of the American Business Women's Association, the Women's
25 Division of the Association of Commerce and Industry, the
26 Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter of DAR, the Hudson Junior
27 Women's Club, the McLean County Women's Republican Club, the
28 National Federation of Republican Women, CEOS 6000 Investment
29 Club, the St. Joseph's Hospital Board, and the Government
30 Finance Officer's Association; and

1 WHEREAS, Mrs. Swope has been supported throughout her
2 public and private career by her husband, Gerald, and her
3 children, Tamara, Scott, Brian, and Teresa; she has nine
4 grandchildren; and
5 WHEREAS, Elaine Swope is indeed worthy of our highest
6 praise; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate Elaine Swope as she retires as McLean County
10 Auditor and extend to her our best wishes for the future; and
11 be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Elaine Swope as an expression of our esteem.
