1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Deloris Henry on
4 becoming the assistant superintendent of curriculum and
5 instruction for Champaign School District Unit 4; and
6 WHEREAS, Deloris Henry has a Bachelor's Degree and a
7 Master's Degree in education; she also holds a Master's
8 Degree in business from Florida Institute of Technology, an
9 administrative degree from Western Illinois University, and a
10 doctorate from Illinois State University; and
11 WHEREAS, Deloris Henry has previously been employed as a
12 special education teacher at Edison Middle School in Unit 4,
13 and for the last 10 years has served as the principal of an
14 elementary school in Davenport, Iowa; she was recommended for
15 her new position by Champaign Superintendent Mike Cain; and
16 WHEREAS, Deloris Henry has done research on black parents
17 and their involvement in elementary schools; her goal will be
18 to help the district in improving what they offer students of
19 color, those from poverty homes, and those from single-parent
20 homes; Mrs. Henry believes that parents and schools each need
21 to take 50% of the responsibility to provide a world-class
22 education; and
23 WHEREAS, Deloris Henry is married to Grant G. Henry, who
24 is also an educator; they have one son, Stacey, who runs his
25 own food vending business in Dayton, Ohio; and
26 WHEREAS, Deloris Henry will be monitoring and reporting
27 on the school district's compliance with civil rights
28 agreements; since the eighth grade, Deloris Henry has known
29 what she was going to do with her life, now she is doing just
30 that; therefore, be it

1 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 congratulate Deloris Henry on becoming the assistant
3 superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Champaign
4 School District Unit 4; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Deloris Henry, along with our sincere regards.
