1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Donald Stephens is the first and only mayor of
3 the Village of Rosemont; he has ruled his town for over
4 forty-one years; and
5 WHEREAS, He grew up in the Austin neighborhood of
6 Chicago's Far West Side; when he was 11, his father died and
7 he, his mother, and his two brothers moved to live with an
8 uncle in a place that would become Rosemont; and
9 WHEREAS, Mayor Stephens has guided Rosemont from its
10 beginnings as a swampy area on the Chicago border with a
11 little homeowner's association to the major business and
12 entertainment center it is today; and
13 WHEREAS, He was able to incorporate the village in 1956;
14 and he had the foresight to realize that O'Hare International
15 Airport would add to the area's economy; and
16 WHEREAS, Hotels, theaters, convention center, and Hummel
17 Museum, the Village of Rosemont is indeed a tribute to the
18 Honorable Donald E. Stephens; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 take this opportunity to extend our fondest birthday
22 felicitations to Donald E. Stephens; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to Donald E. Stephens.
