1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize outstanding
4 achievements in education; and
5 WHEREAS, Our Lady of the Wayside School, located in
6 Arlington Heights, Illinois, has been named a United States
7 Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; Our
8 Lady of the Wayside had to show that they were worthy of the
9 award; Our Lady of the Wayside is one of 262 schools across
10 the nation that were awarded; one of nine schools to receive
11 the award in the State of Illinois, and the only private
12 school in Illinois to receive the award; and
13 WHEREAS, The Department of Education evaluates the
14 schools with "Conditions of Effective Schooling" that
15 include: student focus and support, challenging standards and
16 curriculum, teaching and active learning, learning-centered
17 school contexts, professional growth and collaboration,
18 leadership and organizational vitality, and school, family,
19 and community partnership; the panel also considers student
20 performance on measures of achievement, daily student and
21 teacher attendance records, and school, staff, and student
22 awards; Our Lady of the Wayside School was visited by a panel
23 representing the Department of Education, who made their
24 determination based on what they witnessed and recorded at
25 the site; and
26 WHEREAS, Our Lady of the Wayside School was noted for
27 their high standardized testing scores, their integration of
28 computer learning into all grade levels, and the range of
29 enhancement programs including music, art, foreign language,
30 physical education, and learning programs for the disabled,
31 as important factors in the school's selection as an award
32 winner; and

1 WHEREAS, In addition, Our Lady of the Wayside School was
2 noted for it's three-level challenge program, the family
3 atmosphere created by the school and the community, and the
4 warmth and exuberance of the school; the panel noted that the
5 school could easily take a rest, but that the school
6 continues to work hard to provide a respectable and academic
7 program for the students; Our Lady of the Wayside is
8 deserving of the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award;
9 therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 honor Our Lady of the Wayside of Arlington Heights, Illinois
13 on their selection as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; and
14 be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Our Lady of the Wayside School with our
17 congratulations.
