1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It is important to honor the outstanding
3 achievements and efforts of citizens of the State of
4 Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Muriel "Manny" Tuteur is one such citizen; for
6 many years, Manny has been, and continues to be, one of
7 Illinois' most visible fighters for the rights of women,
8 children, and workers; Manny has served as President of the
9 Coalition of Labor Union Women; she has served on the
10 Governor's Task Force on Children; she has been Co-Chair of
11 CLU's National Committee on Family and Work Issues; she was
12 recognized as the Outstanding Woman in Illinois by the ERA
13 Ratification Project of the National Organization for Women;
14 and has been a leader and participated in several
15 organizations and issue campaigns; and
16 WHEREAS, Manny has served as a labor union activist for
17 decades; since 1969, Manny has worked for the Amalgamated
18 Clothing and Textile Workers Union; she presently serves as
19 Assistant Education Director of UNITE, Chicago and Central
20 States Board; in addition, Manny was a leader in the Illinois
21 Fair Trade Campaign; and
22 WHEREAS, Manny is dedicated to the care and education of
23 small children; Manny has served as Director and teacher in
24 several day care centers, including the ACTWU Day Care
25 Center, for nearly thirty years; and
26 WHEREAS, Manny brings her smile and enthusiasm to many of
27 the State's gatherings of activists and progressives; Manny
28 is a long-standing board member of Citizen Action of
29 Illinois; she has been an active campaigner for progressive
30 Democratic candidates; and an inspiration to all those who
31 are privileged enough to work with her; and

1 WHEREAS, On the occasion of her seventy-fifth birthday,
2 Manny shows no sign of slowing or cooling down; she is also
3 not retiring; Muriel "Manny" Tuteur is only celebrating one
4 milestone in her long and productive life; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate, along with her husband Charles and their family
8 and friends, Muriel "Manny" Tuteur on this special day; and
9 be it further
10 RESOLVED, That we wish her a very healthy and happy
11 birthday and wish her many more to come; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Muriel "Manny" Tuteur, along with our
14 congratulations.
