1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, John J. Cortesi of Highland Park, Illinois has
3 made a mark on the community by founding Sunset Foods; Sunset
4 Foods was founded by John, his late brother Hugo, and his
5 brother Willie in 1937; as a result of their dedication to
6 customer service, Sunset Foods now has locations in Highland
7 Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest, and will soon be adding a new
8 location in Libertyville; and
9 WHEREAS, John has worked with other organizations as well
10 to see the community develop: the Central Grocers
11 Cooperative; the Illinois Food Retailers Association;
12 Immaculate Conception Parish; the Highland Park Hospital;
13 Director of the First Bank of Highland Park; the Highland
14 Park Chamber of Commerce; the Highland Park Rotary Club;
15 Family Services of South Lake County; Sierra Club; Boy Scouts
16 of America; and Bob-O-Link Golf Club; and
17 WHEREAS, John Cortesi and his family have aided the
18 community by reaching out to many of its charitable
19 organizations, including: the Suburban Fine Arts Center, and
20 a donation of the Old Firehouse to the City of Highland Park
21 Youth Services; and
22 WHEREAS, John Cortesi has received several awards,
23 including the Highland Park Rotary Club's Paul Harris
24 Fellowship Award; Illinois Food Retailers' "Man of the Year"
25 Award; and the City of Hope "Spirit of Life" Award; and
26 WHEREAS, John, along with his wife Jean, are proudest of
27 their 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren;
28 John and Jean count their family as their highest
29 achievements in life; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 commend the hard work and dedication of John J. Cortesi of
2 Highland Park, Illinois; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to John J. Cortesi.
