          Amends the Illinois Vehicle  Code  to  make  a  stylistic
      change  to  a  provision  concerning  highway  safety and the
      powers of the Governor.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Illinois  Vehicle  Code  by  changing
 2    Section 17-101.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is  amended  by
 6    changing Section 17-101 as follows:
 7        (625 ILCS 5/17-101) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 17-101)
 8        Sec. 17-101. Powers and duties of governor. The Governor,
 9    in  addition  to  other duties and responsibilities conferred
10    upon him or her by the constitution and laws of this State is
11    empowered to contract and to do all other things necessary in
12    behalf of this State to secure the full benefits available to
13    this State under the Federal Highway Safety Act of  1966,  as
14    amended, and in so doing, to cooperate with Federal and State
15    agencies,    agencies    private   and   public,   interested
16    organizations,  and  with  individuals,  to  effectuate   the
17    purposes  of  that  enactment,  and  any  and  all subsequent
18    amendments thereto. The Governor  is  the  official  of  this
19    State having the ultimate responsibility for dealing with the
20    Federal  Government  with  respect to programs and activities
21    pursuant to the National Highway Safety Act of 1966  and  any
22    amendments  thereto.  To  that end he or she shall coordinate
23    the activities of the Secretary of State and the State  Board
24    of  Education  and of any and all departments and agencies of
25    this State and its subdivisions, relating thereto.
