325 ILCS 5/8.6 new
Amends the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act to
require the Department of Children and Family Services to
create an interagency committee to develop a plan to pay for
medical and mental health evaluations for all children
suspected of being abused or neglected. Requires the
committee to report to the General Assembly and the Child
Protective Service Unit by March 15, 1998. Effective
immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting
2 Act by adding Section 8.6.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act
6 is amended by adding Section 8.6 as follows:
7 (325 ILCS 5/8.6 new)
8 Sec. 8.6. Medical and mental health evaluations.
9 (a) The Department shall develop a collaborative plan to
10 provide and pay for medical and mental health screenings for
11 all children taken into temporary protective custody due to
12 abuse or neglect. The plan shall include how best to use
13 existing resources to pay for these evaluations.
14 (b) The Department shall report the plan it develops to
15 the General Assembly by March 15, 1998.
16 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.
