      625 ILCS 5/3-806.4        from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-806.4
          Amends the Illinois Vehicle  Code  to  provide  that  the
      Secretary of State shall issue one set of registration plates
      for  Gold  Star  recipients  to  one surviving sibling of the
      person who served in the Armed Forces if the parent no longer
      survives.  Effective immediately.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Illinois  Vehicle  Code  by  changing
 2    Section 3-806.4.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is  amended  by
 6    changing Section 3-806.4 as follows:

 8        Sec. 3-806.4.  Gold Star recipients.  Commencing with the
 9    1991   registration   year,   upon  proper  application,  the
10    Secretary of State  shall  issue  one  pair  of  registration
11    plates  to  any Illinois resident, who as the surviving widow
12    or widower, or in  the  absence  thereof,  as  the  surviving
13    parent,  is  awarded  the  Gold  Star by the United States in
14    recognition of spouses or children who served  in  the  Armed
15    Forces  of  the  United  States and lost their lives while in
16    service whether in peacetime or war. If the parent no  longer
17    survives,  the Secretary of State shall issue the plates to a
18    surviving sibling, of the person  who  served  in  the  Armed
19    Forces,  who is an Illinois resident. No more than one set of
20    plates shall be issued for each Gold Star awarded,  and  only
21    one  surviving  parent,  or  in  the  absence  of a surviving
22    parent, only one surviving sibling shall be issued a  set  of
23    registration  plates, except for those surviving parents who,
24    as recipients of the Gold Star,  have  legally  separated  or
25    divorced,  in  which  case  each  surviving  parent  shall be
26    allowed one set of registration plates.  Registration  plates
27    issued  under  this  Section  shall  be  for  first  division
28    vehicles  and  second  division  vehicles  of 8,000 pounds or
29    less. An applicant  shall  be  charged  a  $15  fee  for  the
30    original issuance in addition to the appropriate registration
31    fee  which  shall  be  deposited  into  the Road Fund to help

 1    defray  the  administrative  processing  costs.    For   each
 2    registration  renewal  period,  a  $2 fee, in addition to the
 3    appropriate  registration   fee,   shall   be   charged   and
 4    deposited into the Road Fund.
