Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Recent laws may not yet be included in the ILCS database, but they are found on this site as Public Acts soon after they become law. For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to the Guide.

Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

    Sec. 5-1. Short title. This Article may be cited as the Broadband Access on Passenger Rail Law.

    Sec. 5-5. Definitions. As used in this Article:
    "Department" means the Department of Transportation.
    "Passenger rail systems" includes all passenger rail systems maintained by the National Passenger Railroad Corporation in Illinois and those passenger rail systems under the jurisdiction of the Commuter Rail Board as established in Section 3B.08 of the Regional Transportation Authority Act.

    Sec. 5-10. Broadband Access on Passenger Rail Plan. The Department shall deliver to the Governor and General Assembly a plan for ensuring high speed data transmission services on all passenger rail systems in Illinois at fair and reasonable prices no later than December 31, 2007. The plan shall include recommendations for acquiring necessary rights of way, installation of necessary infrastructure, operation of high speed data transmission services, and funding sources.
