1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives congratulate Brother T. Richard Day of
4 Chicago on his retirement from the Chicago and Northeast
5 Illinois District Council of Carpenters; and
6 WHEREAS, Brother Day started as a member of Local 839 and
7 served his apprenticeship in March 1962; he became a
8 Journeyman and then enlisted in the United States Navy
9 Seabees and made two tours of Vietnam, working as a squad
10 leader on various projects from bridges and water towers to
11 ammunition bunkers and officers' quarters and clubs; after
12 returning home in 1969, he returned to the Carpenters Union
13 and became actively involved with Local 839; and
14 WHEREAS, Brother Day has been a member of the United
15 Brotherhood of Carpenters for the past 41 years; he was the
16 Business Manager of Carpenters Local Union #839 for 21 years,
17 and an officer for 33 years serving as Recording Secretary
18 and President; for the past 9 years he has served as the
19 Political Director and Business Representative of the Chicago
20 & Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters; and
21 WHEREAS, During his time of service as Political Director
22 for the Council and for the past 30 years, he was personally
23 involved in all aspects of the political process for
24 "Electing The Friends of Working People"; he has spent
25 countless hours of his time and devoted his efforts and
26 experience in helping candidates in their efforts for
27 election; and
28 WHEREAS, In addition, he volunteered time and effort to
29 many charitable organizations and groups such as the Muscular
30 Dystrophy Association and the Children's Advocacy Center; he
31 served as the Chairman of the Village Planning Commission for
32 Streamwood, where he reviewed the majority of construction

1 projects for the village; and
2 WHEREAS, Brother Day is supported in his personal life by
3 his wife, Patricia, and his children, Tatia, Randolph, and
4 Elizabeth; and his two grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary; and
5 WHEREAS, A Retirement Dinner/Dance will be held on
6 November 8, 2003 at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest in honor
7 of Brother T. Richard Day; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we congratulate Brother T. Richard Day on his retirement
11 after many years of dedicated service to the Chicago and
12 Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters and wish
13 him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Brother T. Richard Day as an expression of our
16 respect and esteem.
