SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of A. Malcolm Layson of Waukegan, who passed
4away on May 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was born on the family farm in
6Waterloo, Indiana to Royal and Elma on September 10, 1920; he
7served in the United States Navy as a diesel mechanic in the
8Ellice Islands in the Pacific during World War II and painted
9many pictures of the war and island life; upon his return from
10the war, he attended art school in Chicago; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson worked for a short time as an
12artist for Abbott Labs; he formed Layson Productions Unlimited
13in Waukegan; he also taught art at the College of Lake County
14and exhibited his work in many venues, including the Art Fair
15on the Square in Lake Forest; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was a long-time member of the Lake
17County Art League and the Five to Show exhibition group; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson enjoyed staying at the cabin he
19built in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he painted many
20beautiful scenes and fished; and

1    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson was preceded in death by his
2parents; his brother, Francis; his first wife, Joy Layson; and
3his son, Daniel; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Malcolm Layson is survived by his loving wife,
5Dorothy; his stepson, Jeffery Miltimore; his stepdaughters,
6Leslie Hartman and Susan Berdahl; his daughters, Jill Morris
7and Robin Coban; his sister-in-law, Elise Layson; and many
8nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12A. Malcolm Layson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Malcolm Layson as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
