SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Howard M. Dean Jr. of Hinsdale, who
4passed away on March 25, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born and raised in Hinsdale; he graduated
6from Hinsdale Township High School in 1956; he received his
7Bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern
8Methodist University in 1960 and his Master's degree in
9business administration from Northwestern University in 1961;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, He spent his career with Dean Foods Company
12beginning in 1965 after completing a tour of duty in the United
13States Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant junior
14grade; after serving as the company's internal auditor for 5
15years, he became president and chief operating officer in 1970;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1987, he was elected to the position of chief
18executive officer and president; in 1989, he became chairman of
19the board; he retired in 2003; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He served on several boards within the dairy and
21food industries as well as in other industries; he served as

1president of the Hinsdale Golf Club in 1979 and president of
2The Community House in 1980; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter,
4Elizabeth L. Flynn; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Dean Jr. is survived by his wife of 52
6years, Diane; his daughters, Ashley D. (David) Killpack and
7Jennifer D. (William) Brummett; his brothers, Greg B. (Pam)
8Dean and William E. (Doreen) Dean; and his grandchildren, Alli
9and Lauren Flynn, Jack, Christy, Kelly, and Howard Hellwig, and
10Anna, Jessie, and Abby Brummett; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13his family and friends, the passing of Howard Dean Jr.; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Howard Dean Jr. as a symbol of our
17sincere sympathy.
