SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Howard M. Dean Jr. of Hinsdale, who passed away on March 25, 2012; and

WHEREAS, He was born and raised in Hinsdale; he graduated from Hinsdale Township High School in 1956; he received his Bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in 1960 and his Master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University in 1961; and

WHEREAS, He spent his career with Dean Foods Company beginning in 1965 after completing a tour of duty in the United States Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade; after serving as the company's internal auditor for 5 years, he became president and chief operating officer in 1970; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, he was elected to the position of chief executive officer and president; in 1989, he became chairman of the board; he retired in 2003; and

WHEREAS, He served on several boards within the dairy and food industries as well as in other industries; he served as president of the Hinsdale Golf Club in 1979 and president of The Community House in 1980; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth L. Flynn; and

WHEREAS, Howard Dean Jr. is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; his daughters, Ashley D. (David) Killpack and Jennifer D. (William) Brummett; his brothers, Greg B. (Pam) Dean and William E. (Doreen) Dean; and his grandchildren, Alli and Lauren Flynn, Jack, Christy, Kelly, and Howard Hellwig, and Anna, Jessie, and Abby Brummett; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Howard Dean Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Howard Dean Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
