HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man or humble
3background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
4advancing the public good, having been employed as an
5entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of
6the State of California, and President of the United States;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction
9for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of
10America; during his second election, he earned the confidence
11of three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of
12the 50 states in the general election - a record unsurpassed in
13the history of American presidential elections; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated
15President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by
16rampant inflation and high unemployment; and
 
17    WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked in a
18bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring
19accountability and common sense to government, which led to
20unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions
21of Americans; and

1    WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy
2agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug
3use in our neighborhoods; and
 
4    WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces
5contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values,
6and those cherished by the free world, and prepared America's
7armed forces to meet the challenges of the 21st century; and
 
8    WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through
9strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate
10demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
11millions of people; and
 
12    WHEREAS, February 6, 2011 will be the 100th anniversary of
13Ronald Reagan's birth and the seventh since his passing;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17the date of February 6, 2011, be designated as Ronald Reagan
18Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of this State to take
20cognizance of this event and to participate fittingly in its
21observance.
