SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elizabeth "Liz" Buirts Lay, who passed
4away on October 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was born in Woodruff, Arkansas to
6Andrew and Obie Mae Buirts on September 5, 1937, the fourth of
7seven daughters; she committed to her faith at an early age at
8Vine Hill Baptist Church in Cotton Plant, Arkansas; she
9graduated from Cotton Plant Vocational High School, and she
10later relocated to Chicago; she married Samuel J. Lay on
11October 21, 1966; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay retired from Cook County Hospital
13after 38 years of service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was a member of the Order of the
15Eastern Star Chapter #48 and the Heritage International
16Christian Church, where she worshiped under the leadership of
17Bishop Dwight Gunn, Senior Pastor, and was active in God's
18Seniors on the Move and the Missions Ministries; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay was preceded in death by her
20parents; and her sisters, Ethel Sawyer, Deborah Brown, and Ella
21Buirts; and

1    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lay is survived by her loving husband,
2Samuel; her daughter, Debbie Lay; her sons, Bobby (Joyce) Lay
3and Michael Lay; her stepson, Scott Julion Lay; her sisters,
4Betty (Sue) Atkins, Gloria Buirts, Dorothy (Dot) Buirts; her
5grandchildren, Valencia V. Johnson, Lemara S. Rutledge, Robert
6F. Lay, and Christopher J. Lay; her great-granddaughter, Lauren
7Faith Hill; her best friend, Icola Lewis; and her many nieces
8and nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Elizabeth "Liz" Buirts Lay and extend our sincere condolences
12to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
13it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Elizabeth Lay as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
