SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eddie "Simroy" Golliday of Belleville,
4who passed away on January 7, 2017 at the age of 74; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eddie Golliday was born in Grenada, Mississippi to
6J.C. Golliday and I.V. Hankins Golliday on June 4, 1942; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Eddie Golliday was a prolific mechanic,
8maintenance man, and businessman; he started Golliday Rentals
9over 35 years ago and has owned over 100 rental properties and
10flipped many houses; he and his wife owned and operated Alorton
11Hardware and Golliday's "Catch of the Day"; he was employed for
12over 30 years at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in St. Louis,
13Missouri and achieved the coveted position of Maintenance
14Mechanic, being the first and only black maintenance man to
15ever be hired at that location; after he retired from
16Pepsi-Cola he went to work for the East St. Louis Park District
17as a seasonal Maintenance Manager, a position he enjoyed until
18his death; his love for work was deeply embedded in his strong
19character; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Eddie Golliday was a loving husband, loving
21father, and devoted family patriarch; he was outspoken, strict,
22caring, and had a sense of humor enjoyed by all who met him;

2    WHEREAS, Eddie Golliday was preceded in death by his
3parents; his other loving parents, Olivia Golliday and Jessie
4Golliday; his son, Cordell; his brothers, Jimmie, Roscoe, and
5Will Golliday; his sisters, Lela Bell Sally and Ruth Cook; his
6special mother/aunt, Dora Bonds; his grandchildren, Monte
7Golliday, Brittany Golliday, and baby Tiara Golliday; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Eddie Golliday is survived by his loving wife of
9over 40 years, Irma McSwain Golliday; his sons, Antwyne
10(Monique), Dwayne, and Alvin (Delores); his daughters, Annette
11(Thomas) Hill, Laura Ann Golliday, and Elesia (Darian) Brown;
12his siblings, Frank Golliday, Tommie Jean Golliday, Shelba
13Golliday, Douglas Golliday, Earnie Mae Murry, Mildred
14(Charles) Foote, Rosie Sheperd, James Golliday, and Michael
15(Paula) Golliday; his 50 grandchildren and great
16grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
20family and friends, mourn the passing of Eddie "Simroy"
21Golliday, and express our sincere condolences to his family,
22friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Eddie Golliday as an expression of
3our deepest sympathy.
