AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2493

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2493 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by
5adding Section 12.10 as follows:
 
6    (110 ILCS 305/12.10 new)
7    Sec. 12.10. Supplemental deer food; study. The University
8of Illinois Prairie Research Institute shall, subject to
9appropriation and in consultation with the Department of
10Natural Resources and the University of Illinois College of
11Veterinary Medicine, conduct a study for a period of at least 5
12years on the health effects of supplemental deer feeding on the
13wild deer population outside of any Illinois deer hunting
14season and whether supplemental deer feeding affects the risk
15of disease transmission in the deer population. The study shall
16include a social study for a period of at least 5 years to

1measure the social impacts of supplemental deer feeding. For
2the purpose of this study, supplemental deer feeding shall
3include mixtures that are commonly used to feed wildlife with a
4mineral component or commercial feed. The study shall be
5conducted in areas within this State that are south of Illinois
6State Route 36. During the study, supplemental deer feeding
7shall be permitted on private land in the geographic boundaries
8established for the study. The University of Illinois Prairie
9Research Institute and the University of Illinois College of
10Veterinary Medicine shall submit the study's findings and any
11recommendations to the Department of Natural Resources, to be
12posted on its Internet website, and the General Assembly in a
13report no more than 180 days after the completion of the study.
14The report to the General Assembly shall be filed with the
15Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Secretary of the
16Senate in electronic form only, in the manner that the Clerk
17and Secretary shall direct.".
