1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE RESOLUTION 1152
2     AMENDMENT NO. ___. Amend Senate Resolution 1152 by
3 replacing everything after the heading with the following:

4     "WHEREAS, The pet industry and animal advocates oppose the
5 irresponsible breeding of dogs; and

6     WHEREAS, Every year, dogs are euthanized due to a range of
7 factors, including behavioral issues that make them
8 unadoptable, geographic concentration, and public demand for
9 certain breeds over others; and

10     WHEREAS, Responsible pet ownership begins with research
11 and communication to find the ideal pet for each individual
12 circumstance and pet owners need to be diligent in researching
13 the background and breed requirements of any puppy they are
14 purchasing or adopting to minimize the likelihood of
15 relinquishment; and

1     WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should continue to ensure
2 that dogs are bred in a safe and secure environment; therefore,
3 be it

4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate June 1,
6 2016 as "Healthy Puppy Day" in the State of Illinois in order
7 to raise awareness of irresponsible breeding of dogs and its
8 impact on the animals and people of this State.".
