SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary McCann of Wheaton, who passed away
4on January 12, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary McCann was raised in Prophetstown; she earned
6her English degree from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, before
7moving to Chicago for a job at Loyola Press, where she met her
8husband; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In the mid-1970s, Mary McCann took a job as a
10staff secretary at Wheaton Warrenville High School; she
11subsequently worked for the Council of West Suburban Colleges
12while earning a master's degree in business administration from
13Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle (now Benedictine
14University); and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1977, Mary McCann wrote two "Speak Out" essays
16for the Tribune, which reflected on meal preparations and on
17transitions as her children were growing older; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In 1983, Mary McCann joined the Oak Brook
19accounting firm Wolf & Co., where she worked with the firm's
20managing partner Joel Herter; while at Wolf, her career
21progressed from strictly administrative support to political

1reporting, tax preparation, and financial planning; she also
2received the certified financial planner designation; and
 
3    WHEREAS, After retiring from Wolf & Co. in 2009, Mary
4McCann became involved with the Friends of the Wheaton Library,
5where she served as the group's spokeswoman in its opposition
6to $300,000 in funding cuts by the City Council; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary McCann is survived by her husband, John; her
8son, Brian; her daughters, Maureen McCann and Karen Ogden; and
9her 3 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12her family and friends, the passing of Mary McCann; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mary McCann as an expression of our
16sympathy.
