| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Jack Wallace Lawton, who passed away on |
| 4 | | December 12, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lawton was born on September 9, 1922, in |
| 6 | | Chicago; his parents were John Walter Lawton and Emma Marie |
| 7 | | Lawton; he married Dorothy Mae Felker on July 13, 1943; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Lane Tech High School in |
| 9 | | Chicago, Jack Lawton enlisted in the United States Navy in |
| 10 | | 1942; he served as a torpedo bomber pilot on the U.S.S. |
| 11 | | Franklin as part of Torpedo Squadron #13 during World War II; |
| 12 | | during the war, he was shot down at Iwo Jima, rescued by |
| 13 | | submarine, and later returned to the war; he was awarded 2 |
| 14 | | Distinguished Flying Crosses and one Purple Heart for his |
| 15 | | meritorious service; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, After attending Northwestern University, Jack |
| 17 | | Lawton and his wife settled in Hinsdale; for 42 years, he |
| 18 | | worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, where he was |
| 19 | | head of Operations and Installation for the Chicagoland area; |
| 20 | | and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lawton served as president of Ruth Lake |
|

| 1 | | Country Club and as President of Redeemer Lutheran Church in |
| 2 | | Hinsdale; he also served as president of Royal Palm Country |
| 3 | | Club and Royal Wood Country Club in Naples, Florida, as well as |
| 4 | | the Marco Lutheran Church on Marco Island, Florida; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lawton is survived by his beloved wife of 68 |
| 6 | | years, Dottie; he was the cherished father of Sue Kveton |
| 7 | | (Skip), Greg Lawton (Maureen), Steve Lawton (Kathy), Jeff |
| 8 | | Lawton, and Matthew Lawton (Cassandra); he was a devoted and |
| 9 | | loving grandfather to Jennifer, Scott, Raina, Greg Jr., |
| 10 | | Gretchen, Alyssa, Alexander, Ali, Alana, and Olivia; he was |
| 11 | | also the devoted great-grandfather of Jay, Maggie, Paige, |
| 12 | | Keegan, Savana, Fergus, Brady, Zivio, and Anezka; therefore, be |
| 13 | | it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 16 | | his family and friends, the passing of Jack Wallace Lawton; and |
| 17 | | be it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the family of Jack Lawton as an expression of our |
| 20 | | sympathy.
