SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jack Wallace Lawton, who passed away on
4December 12, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Lawton was born on September 9, 1922, in
6Chicago; his parents were John Walter Lawton and Emma Marie
7Lawton; he married Dorothy Mae Felker on July 13, 1943; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After graduating from Lane Tech High School in
9Chicago, Jack Lawton enlisted in the United States Navy in
101942; he served as a torpedo bomber pilot on the U.S.S.
11Franklin as part of Torpedo Squadron #13 during World War II;
12during the war, he was shot down at Iwo Jima, rescued by
13submarine, and later returned to the war; he was awarded 2
14Distinguished Flying Crosses and one Purple Heart for his
15meritorious service; and
 
16    WHEREAS, After attending Northwestern University, Jack
17Lawton and his wife settled in Hinsdale; for 42 years, he
18worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, where he was
19head of Operations and Installation for the Chicagoland area;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jack Lawton served as president of Ruth Lake

1Country Club and as President of Redeemer Lutheran Church in
2Hinsdale; he also served as president of Royal Palm Country
3Club and Royal Wood Country Club in Naples, Florida, as well as
4the Marco Lutheran Church on Marco Island, Florida; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Lawton is survived by his beloved wife of 68
6years, Dottie; he was the cherished father of Sue Kveton
7(Skip), Greg Lawton (Maureen), Steve Lawton (Kathy), Jeff
8Lawton, and Matthew Lawton (Cassandra); he was a devoted and
9loving grandfather to Jennifer, Scott, Raina, Greg Jr.,
10Gretchen, Alyssa, Alexander, Ali, Alana, and Olivia; he was
11also the devoted great-grandfather of Jay, Maggie, Paige,
12Keegan, Savana, Fergus, Brady, Zivio, and Anezka; therefore, be
13it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family and friends, the passing of Jack Wallace Lawton; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Jack Lawton as an expression of our
20sympathy.
