| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of George W. Donohoo, who passed away on | 4 | | December 18, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo was born on November 16, 1919, in | 6 | | Pearl; he was the son of Ray W. and Hazel (Lytle) Donohoo;
he | 7 | | married his beloved wife, the former June Harszy, on April 15, | 8 | | 1950, in Alton; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo served his country with pride and | 10 | | distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World | 11 | | War II; he served as a torpedo doorman 3/C aboard the destroyer | 12 | | USS Wren, where he received 3 battle stars; he was also near | 13 | | the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the | 14 | | Japanese surrender; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Pearl High School in 1937, | 16 | | George Donohoo went to work for the Olin Corporation in East | 17 | | Alton as a member of the Quality Control and Consumer Services | 18 | | Team from 1939 to 1981; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo played in the industrial baseball | 20 | | and basketball leagues during the 1940s and 1950s; he was an | 21 | | active trap shooter, hunter, bowler, and golfer; he was on the |

| 1 | | committee to establish the Westerner Club; he was also active | 2 | | many times in Community Chest with the Junior Achievement | 3 | | Program and as a Little League Baseball coach; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo was an active member of the Madison | 5 | | County Democratic Party; he served as Democratic Committeeman | 6 | | in Wood River from 1960 to 1996, Wood River Township Democratic | 7 | | Chairman from 1970 to 1996, executive vice-chairman of Madison | 8 | | County Democratic Control Committee, member of the 49th | 9 | | District Democratic Committee, delegate to the 1980 Democratic | 10 | | National Convention, and multiple-time delegate at the | 11 | | Illinois Democratic Convention; he served as trustee for Wood | 12 | | River Township and was one of the organizing supporters for | 13 | | Senators Paul Simon, John Sharp, and William Haine and Judge | 14 | | Charles Romani, along with many other public servants; he was | 15 | | honored to have known each of the Democratic governors since | 16 | | the early 1960s; during his time as Committeeman in Wood River | 17 | | Precinct 22, the precinct had the distinction as being one of | 18 | | the top voting precincts in the country; he was known and | 19 | | respected as a man who was fiercely honest and always kept his | 20 | | word; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo was preceded in death by his | 22 | | parents and his brother, Keith Donohoo; and
| 23 | | WHEREAS, George Donohoo is survived by his wife; his son, |

| 1 | | Michael Donohoo; his brother, Richard (Glenna) Donohoo; and his | 2 | | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 5 | | his family and friends, the passing of
George W. Donohoo; and | 6 | | be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of George Donohoo as an expression of | 9 | | our sympathy.
