AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 105

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 105 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the MRSA
5 Prevention, Control, and Reporting Act.
 
6     Section 5. Definition. In this Act, "State residential
7 facility" or "facility" means: any Department of Human Services
8 operated residential facility, including any State mental
9 health hospital, State developmental center, or State
10 residential school for the deaf and visually impaired; any
11 Department of Corrections operated correctional center, work
12 camp or boot camp; and any Department of Juvenile Justice
13 operated juvenile center or boot camp.
 
14     Section 10. MRSA prevention, control, and reporting. In
15 order to improve the prevention of infections due to

1 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ("MRSA"), the
2 following MRSA prevention, control, and reporting activities
3 are applicable to State residential facilities:
4         (1) Guidelines. State residential facilities shall
5     develop and utilize policies and procedures for MRSA
6     prevention, control, and reporting that are in compliance
7     with federal guidelines and consistent with the
8     operational needs of affected agencies.
9         (2) Minimum standards. Procedural MRSA Prevention and
10     Control Guidelines shall include, but not be limited to,
11     recommendations and requirements for screening and
12     surveillance, education and training, hygiene, sanitation,
13     and infection control.
14         (3) Reporting. State residential facilities shall
15     comply with Department of Public Health rules and
16     regulations for reporting of communicable diseases,
17     including MRSA.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.".
