SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Margaret O. "Peg" (nee O'Donnell) Coffin
4of Oak Brook, who passed away on December 21, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin was born in New York City; she
6graduated first in her class in 1949 and was a member of the
7Law Review at St. John's University School of Law in New York;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin held a number of legal and
10business positions, including Circuit Court Judge of DuPage
11County, Assistant State's Attorney of DuPage County (Criminal
12Division), Executive Development Program graduate, and manager
13at the Hanover Trust Company in New York City; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin had extensive civic leadership
15experience; her positions included being a member of the
16Hinsdale District 86 Board of Education, President of St. Isaac
17Jogues Board of Education, the founding member and first
18President and Director of the DuPage Association of Women
19Lawyers, a member and acting Chairman of the Zoning Board of
20Appeals for the Village of Oak Brook, Chairman of the Zoning
21and Annexation Committee for the Oak Brook Civic Association,
22President, Director, and Co-Founder of the Fullersburg Woods

1Area Association, and Executive Board Member of the Education
2Advisory Committee for the Catholic Diocese of Joliet; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin had many passions during her life;
4she was a private plane pilot, including aerobatic flying, and
5she was often involved in political campaigns and initiatives;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin was the loving daughter of the
8late Hugh and Anne O'Donnell; the beloved wife of the late
9George Coffin, Jr.; the devoted mother of Susan, Adrienne, and
10Philip (Holly); the cherished grandmother of Elizabeth and
11Sarah Coffin-Karlin, Darcy and Devin Kolstad, and Roger, Peter,
12and Jennifer Coffin; and the dear sister of John O'Donnell, the
13late Hugh "Buddy" O'Donnell, and the late James O'Donnell;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Margaret O. "Peg" Coffin, and extend our sincere condolences to
18her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Margaret Coffin as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
