SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Barb Johnson, who passed away on July 20, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barb Johnson earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barb Johnson had a long and distinguished career in government in Lake Forest; she served 2 terms as Alderman for the 1st Ward, 2 terms on the zoning board, and a term on the Library Board; she was also the first female trustee of Lake Forest Hospital, where she served from 1985 to 1995; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barb Johnson was a member of the Women's Boards of the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Lake Forest College; she was a leader in the renowned "Know Your Chicago Committee"; she was a member of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board; she was a lawyer for the Federal Defender's Program in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barb Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William B. Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barb Johnson is survived by her sons, Ben and Kirk; her daughter, Kathleen Browning; and her grandchildren, Will, Olivia, Eileen, Grace, Ben, and John; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Mary Barb Johnson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Barb Johnson as an expression of our sympathy.
