SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard B. Maye, Ph.D., who passed away on July 13, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye was born on October 25, 1933, in Newbern, Alabama; his parents were Johnnie Boykin and Frances Mayin; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye served his country as a member of the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye served as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Illinois College from 2001 until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye was inducted into the 1980-1981 edition of Who's Who of America and was a founding member of One Church One Child, which earned him an invitation to the White House; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye was ordained as a minister at Grace Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio; he started his ministry in Springfield at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church before founding Second Timothy Baptist Church in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye was preceded in death by his parents and his grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Maye is survived by his sons, Darryl Maye, Byron K. Maye, and Larry Lewis-Maye; his brothers, John Boykin and Scott Boykin; his sister, Mary Ann Boykin; his 3 grandchildren; his 4 nieces; his 2 nephews; and his many cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard B. Maye, Ph.D.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Richard Maye as an expression of our sympathy.
