SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Betty Ann Rich of Sugar Grove; and

WHEREAS, Betty Rich was born on March 29, 1940, and was raised on the north side of Chicago near Lake Michigan and Wrigley Field; she attended Lakeview High School for a short time before her family moved to Downers Grove; she graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1957 and chose to attend Northern Illinois University with plans on becoming a teacher; Betty graduated from Northern Illinois University on June 10, 1961 and married Jerry Rich later that same night at the First Methodist Church in Downers Grove; and

WHEREAS, Betty and Jerry moved to a small farm in Sugar Grove; their farm would later blossom into a farming estate; she and Jerry would also develop Rich Harvest Farms in 1985, a now 18-hole private golf course; and

WHEREAS, Betty Rich was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; as a child her school would let out just in time to catch the 7th inning of games; she loved the City of Chicago and learned at a young age to take the 'L' train; she enjoyed bridge with her mother, Marge, still living today at age 92; and

WHEREAS, Betty Rich's giving spirit led her and Jerry to found the Kids Golf Foundation in 1998, a nonprofit junior golf organization making its home today at Rich Harvest Farms; and

WHEREAS, Betty Rich is survived by her husband, Jerry; her mother, Marge; her son, Keith Rich; and her grandchildren, Margaret and Lauren Rich; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Betty Rich, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Betty Rich as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
