SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Amedeo Andrew Giorgi, who passed away
4peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday,
5May 15, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi was born on April 5, 1926, in
7Rockford; his parents were Louisa and Gabriel Giorgi; he
8attended Saint Anthony Grade School, Barbour School,
9Washington Junior High, where he excelled in swimming, and West
10High School, where he met his wife of 67 years, Marilyn Virgene
11Wardecker; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi served in World War II as a gunner
13and postal worker in Guam; he earned his business certificate
14from Rockford Business College in 1947; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi worked for the Rockford Street
16Department for 20 years, where he served as assistant
17supervisor; while there, he led the city workers on their first
18strike for higher wages and better working conditions; he later
19joined the National AFL-CIO as a business representative for
20the retail clerks union, where he worked for almost 30 years;
21in the evenings, he moonlighted at the United States Postal
22Service to support his family; and

1    WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi loved to travel and visited every
2state except Alaska; he loved to watch old movies and listen to
3jazz; he also loved to do things with his family; his favorite
4saying was "Avanti", which translates to "forward" and "never
5give up"; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi was a public servant; in the 1960s,
71970s, and 1980s, he represented the 5th Ward of Rockford on
8the Winnebago County Board; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi served as president of Rockford
10United Labor and 16th District COPE for many terms; he was a
11member of the Saint Ambrogio Society and the Saint Anthony Holy
12Name Society; he represented the 5th Ward, 2nd Precinct as a
13precinct committeeman for many years; he was also a member of
14the Moose Club and the Young Democrats; he was affectionately
15known by his childhood friends by the nickname, "Mud";
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Amadeo Giorgi and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
20friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
