SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edmund Joseph Mallow Sr. of Peoria, who
4passed away on May 4, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. was born on August 10, 1928, in
6Peoria; his parents were John J. and Cecelia S. Bojalad Mallow;
7he married Harriet A. Alwan on November 17, 1951, in Peoria;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. began his working life in the
103rd grade in his father's shoe shop, Mallow Shoe Repair; by the
11time he graduated from Spalding Institute in 1947, he was a
12Master Craftsman; due to his father's illness, he was unable to
13accept a college scholarship he had and instead stayed home,
14where he successfully ran the family shoe repair business for
15the next 14 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In the early 1960s, Edmund Mallow Sr. decided to
17exit the shoe business and began searching for a new career; he
18was subsequently hired by IDS, given one half day of training,
19and sent to work as a financial planner; after two years, he
20became a district manager; in 1969, he left management and
21began building his business using a mailing program; for 10
22years, he sent out 200 mailers every week, which eventually

1grew to 600 clients; through his work, he amassed an impressive
2collection of awards by helping people protect their families,
3buy homes and businesses, educate their children, retire
4comfortably, and make sure their money would outlive them; he
5retired in 2002, after 40 years of dedicated service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. enjoyed cooking family dinners,
7fishing with his kids, and playing friendly games of poker;
8during his retirement years, he enjoyed making jewelry, which
9was affectionately known as "Grandpa or Jido jewelry"; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. was preceded in death by his
11wife of 60 years, Harriet; his parents; and his brother,
12Raymond; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Edmund Mallow Sr. is survived by his children,
14Barbara (John) Woerly, Edmund Jr. (Cathy) Mallow, Carolyn
15(Richard) Kauffman, Sharon (Jim) Karosky, Elaine (David) Owen,
16Dianna (Chris) Russick, and Rick (Deanna) Mallow; his 13
17grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; and his sister,
18Isabelle Couri; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21his family and friends, the passing of Edmund Joseph Mallow
22Sr.; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Edmund Mallow Sr. as an expression
3of our sympathy.
