SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barry Leon Nixon of Venice, Florida, who passed away on October 8, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Barry Nixon was born in Bloomington on February 18, 1941 to Paul and Lois Nixon; he graduated from Mansfield High School in 1958 and Eastern Illinois University in 1962; and

WHEREAS, Barry Nixon began his teaching and coaching career at Bloomington High School, where he discovered his love of tennis; he led the Raiders to 2 State titles and multiple individual championships; he was a member of the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame and received numerous other awards and recognitions; after retiring in 1994, he became the men's tennis coach at Illinois State University until 1999; and

WHEREAS, Barry Nixon is survived by his wife and best friend, Peggy Nixon; his sister, Dixie Mulligan; his sons, Steve Nixon and Eric (Ellen) Nixon; his step-sons, Erik (Annie) Borling and Karl Borling; his granddaughter, Julia; and his grandson, Brett; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barry Leon Nixon, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barry Nixon as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
