SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened by the death of Thomas W. McNamara of Oak Park, who passed away on June 15, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Thomas McNamara was born on October 31, 1931; he attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park, the University of Notre Dame, and Northwestern University Law School; and

WHEREAS, Thomas McNamara practiced law his entire career at the firm now known as Jenner & Block, specializing in real estate, zoning, and other business-related matters; he also handled many pro bono cases and argued before the United States Supreme Court in the case of "Organization for a Better Austin v. O'Keefe"; and

WHEREAS, Thomas McNamara often referred to himself as an avid "indoorsman"; he enjoyed cards, casinos, and playing golf; he was a member for many years at the Oak Park Country Club and the Point O'Woods Country Club, where he served as president; and

WHEREAS, Thomas McNamara was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rita, and by his son, Thomas W. McNamara Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Thomas McNamara is survived by his children, Margo (Gerry) Chadwick, Maureen (Brent) Stratton, Kathleen (Kevin) Conroy, Robert (Suzanne) McNamara, Mary Rita (Steve) Skrine, and Michelle McNamara (Patton Oswalt); his grandchildren, Kate (Mike) Vriner, Maureen, Claire, Brian, Connor, Dylan, Brendan, Liam, Maggie, Elizabeth, Tommy, Colleen, Sean, Katherine, Steven, Patrick, and Alice; his great-grandchild, Rita Vriner; and his siblings, Jeanette (the late Jack) Dan, Marilyn (Tom) Schaub, Jerry (Sue) McNamara, and Eileen McNamara; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas W. McNamara, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas McNamara as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
