SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to recognize Earlean Collins on the occasion of her retirement as Cook County Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Collins has dedicated her life to public service, serving 37 years of elected public office; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Collins was the first black female elected to the Illinois Senate and the first female Assistant Majority Leader and is the longest serving female elected official in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, A celebration in honor of Commissioner Collins will be held on October 17, 2014 at The 500 Room at the Professional Building at Rush University Medical Center; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Earlean Collins on her retirement as Cook County Commissioner, thank her for her dedication to public service, and wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we proclaim October 17, 2014 as "Earlean Collins Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Commissioner Collins as an expression of our esteem and respect.
