SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harlan G. Johnson of Monmouth, who passed
4away on August 3, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harlan Johnson was born in Monmouth on August 3,
61927 to Harlan E. and Clytie (Logsdon) Johnson; he attended
7Monmouth Public Schools; he served with the United States Navy
8on the Destroyer U.S.S. Mullany during World War II from
91944-1946, participating in the battles of Iwo Jima and
10Okinawa; he later served with the United States Army during the
11Korean War from 1948-1952, earning 5 Battle Stars and the
12Combat Infantry Badge and obtaining the rank of Sergeant; he
13married Delores Jackson in Monmouth on October 7, 1953; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Harlan Johnson served as the General Chairman with
15the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks in Chicago for several years;
16he later moved back to Monmouth and worked at Wilson Foods
17where he became the President of United Food and Commercial
18Workers Union Local #1218; he retired in 1990; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Harlan Johnson was a member of the First Lutheran
20Church of Monmouth; he was a lifetime member of the Monmouth
21Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2301 and the Monmouth American
22Legion Post #136; he was active in the local Democratic Party;

1he enjoyed playing golf, jazz, and gardening and was an avid
2fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Harlan Johnson was preceded in death by his
4parents; 3 sisters; and one brother; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harlan Johnson is survived by his wife; sons,
6Frank (Michele) Johnson and Robin Johnson; daughters, Dawn
7Johnson and Vicki Ring; 4 grandchildren; sister, Joan Needham;
8brothers, Danny (Vickie) Johnson, Tony (Barb) Johnson, and
9Bradley (Diane) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Harlan G. Johnson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Harlan Johnson as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
