SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Hansel Marion DeBartolo, Jr. M.D. J.D. of Aurora, who passed away on May 2, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was born in Aurora on May 13, 1947 to Dr. Hansel and Rosemary DeBartolo; he graduated from Marmion Military Academy and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and his Doctor of Medicine from the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine; he trained in General Surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania and then earned his Juris Doctor from Taft Law School in Santa Ana, California; he was board-certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo practiced medicine in Aurora and Sugar Grove for over 36 years; he served as secretary/treasurer of the Illinois Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and published many scholarly journal articles; he was a member of many professional organizations, including the Priestley Surgical Society, the Doctor Mayo Society, and the American Medical Association; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was a life-long member of Holy Angels Parish and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; he enjoyed traveling, gourmet dining, fine wine, and golf, especially at the Aurora Country Club where he was a member since 1978; he was part-owner of the Chicago White Sox since 1981, and a lifetime fan; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan (nee Hefty); 5 children, Dr. Dore, Hansel "Hanz" III, Dr. Merrit (Dr. Shanila Perea), Janae (Benjamin Ernst), and Raquel; one grandson, Jonah; one brother, Dr. Daniel; one sister, Michele; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Hansel Marion DeBartolo, Jr. M.D. J.D., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Debartolo as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
