SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas J. Merlock of Waukegan, who passed
4away on January 27, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Merlock was born on August 11, 1942 in
6Waukegan; his parents were John and Victoria (nee Jappel)
7Merlock; he grew up in North Chicago; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Thomas Merlock graduated from North Chicago
9Community High School and attended Marquette University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After having served in the United States Marine
11Corps, Thomas Merlock joined the family-owned service station
12business, Merlock's Amoco, in Waukegan; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Thomas Merlock was a past Grand Knight and a
14lifetime member in the Knights of Columbus; he enjoyed fishing
15and was a die-hard Cubs fan; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Thomas Merlock was preceded in death by his
17parents, John and Victoria Merlock; brother, John Merlock; and
18sister, Lauretta Opeka; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Thomas Merlock is survived by his best friend and

1wife, Candace (nee Finn); 4 children, Thomas L. (Lily) Merlock,
2Kristen (Christopher) Weihs, Denise (Randy) Kleiboer, and
3Kathryn (Juan) Cervantes; 2 step-daughters, Lisa Strang and
4Lori Strang; 13 grandchildren, Evan, Trevor, and Jake Merlock,
5Ally, Ashley, Adam, and Anderson Weihs, Hunter, Madelyn, and
6Kylie Kleiboer, and Holly, Antti, and Noah Cervantes; and 3
7step-grandchildren, Jaxson Strang, Dylan Kleiboer, and David
8Cervantes; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Thomas J. Merlock; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Thomas Merlock as an expression of
15our sympathy.
