SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. I. Sec. 22

    Proposes to amend the Bill of Rights Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that the right of the individual citizen to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer, and use arms for defense of life and liberty, and for all other legitimate purposes is fundamental and shall not be denied or infringed, and any restriction shall be subject to strict scrutiny. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend Article I of the
9Illinois Constitution by changing Section 22 as follows:

13SECTION 22. RIGHT TO ARMS
14    The Subject only to the police power, the right of the
15individual citizen to acquire, keep, possess, transport,
16carry, transfer, and use and bear arms for defense of life and
17liberty, and for all other legitimate purposes is fundamental
18and shall not be denied or infringed, and any restriction shall
19be subject to strict scrutiny.
