HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John
4Francis Tompkins of Hoffman Estates, who passed away on
5February 3, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Tompkins was born on March 27, 1929, to Myra
7and George Tompkins; he married Yvonne Bourassa; he was a
8United States Air Force veteran, past president of American
9Electric Construction Co., and president emeritus of New
10Horizons Center; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Tompkins led a remarkable life, working hard,
12playing hard, and at times acting like a tough guy; he had many
13loves in his life most importantly his wife, his 8 children,
14his 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Tompkins had an undying devotion to and
16unwavering commitment for children and adults with severe
17development disabilities and autism at the New Horizon Center;
18in 2006, a new, fully accessible facility for the children and
19adults of New Horizon Center opened its doors; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Tompkins was preceded in death by his
21parents; his son, Johnny Tompkins; and his brothers, Chuck

1Tompkins and Bob (Linda) Tompkins; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Tompkins is survived by his wife of 63 years,
3Yvonne; his children Colleen (Jim Morse) Tompkins, Karen (Don)
4Olynk, Susan (Rusty) Gilley, Mary (Mark) Davis, JoAnne (Casey)
5Cartwright, Michael (Sue) Tompkins, and Kenneth (Ayse)
6Tompkins; his 18 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; and
7his siblings, George (Ruth) Tompkins and Mary (Don) Muir;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of John Tompkins, and we extend our
12sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of John Tompkins as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
