HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John Francis Tompkins of Hoffman Estates, who passed away on February 3, 2013; and

WHEREAS, John Tompkins was born on March 27, 1929, to Myra and George Tompkins; he married Yvonne Bourassa; he was a United States Air Force veteran, past president of American Electric Construction Co., and president emeritus of New Horizons Center; and

WHEREAS, John Tompkins led a remarkable life, working hard, playing hard, and at times acting like a tough guy; he had many loves in his life most importantly his wife, his 8 children, his 18 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, John Tompkins had an undying devotion to and unwavering commitment for children and adults with severe development disabilities and autism at the New Horizon Center; in 2006, a new, fully accessible facility for the children and adults of New Horizon Center opened its doors; and

WHEREAS, John Tompkins was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Johnny Tompkins; and his brothers, Chuck Tompkins and Bob (Linda) Tompkins; and

WHEREAS, John Tompkins is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne; his children Colleen (Jim Morse) Tompkins, Karen (Don) Olynk, Susan (Rusty) Gilley, Mary (Mark) Davis, JoAnne (Casey) Cartwright, Michael (Sue) Tompkins, and Kenneth (Ayse) Tompkins; his 18 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, George (Ruth) Tompkins and Mary (Don) Muir; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Tompkins, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Tompkins as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
