HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau is
3celebrating its one hundredth year of service to the General
4Assembly and the people of this State; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Created by statute in 1913 to provide legislative
6drafting assistance to the members of the House of
7Representatives and the Senate, the Legislative Reference
8Bureau became the General Assembly's first legislative support
9service agency and a model for many similar offices
10subsequently established in other states; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Through the years, the number and expertise of the
12Legislative Reference Bureau's attorneys and staff have
13increased to meet the challenges of the General Assembly's
14efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of the people of the
15State of Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Legislative Reference Bureau was instrumental
17to the General Assembly's creation of the Illinois Compiled
18Statutes, and maintains their usefulness to the people of the
19State of Illinois through its continuing compilation of the
20General Assembly's Public Acts into their public domain format;

1    WHEREAS, Guided by the Joint Committee on Legislative
2Support Services, the Legislative Reference Bureau augments
3its service to the General Assembly through maintenance of a
4well-stocked research library and its publications, including
5the Legislative Synopsis and Digest and its annual Case Report;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, For a century, the Legislative Reference Bureau's
8non-partisan commitment to clarity of language and consistency
9of style has enhanced the efforts of the General Assembly to
10speak in a comprehensible, unambiguous voice; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate the attorneys and staff of the Illinois
14Legislative Reference Bureau on the occasion of its One
15Hundredth Anniversary, commending its many years of service to
16the General Assembly and its dedication to the highest
17standards of professionalism, and that we express our
18appreciation of the Bureau's contributions to this State's rich
19heritage of public service; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to James W. Dodge, Executive Director of the Illinois
22Legislative Reference Bureau.
