HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau is celebrating its one hundredth year of service to the General Assembly and the people of this State; and

WHEREAS, Created by statute in 1913 to provide legislative drafting assistance to the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the Legislative Reference Bureau became the General Assembly's first legislative support service agency and a model for many similar offices subsequently established in other states; and

WHEREAS, Through the years, the number and expertise of the Legislative Reference Bureau's attorneys and staff have increased to meet the challenges of the General Assembly's efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Legislative Reference Bureau was instrumental to the General Assembly's creation of the Illinois Compiled Statutes, and maintains their usefulness to the people of the State of Illinois through its continuing compilation of the General Assembly's Public Acts into their public domain format; and

WHEREAS, Guided by the Joint Committee on Legislative Support Services, the Legislative Reference Bureau augments its service to the General Assembly through maintenance of a well-stocked research library and its publications, including the Legislative Synopsis and Digest and its annual Case Report; and

WHEREAS, For a century, the Legislative Reference Bureau's non-partisan commitment to clarity of language and consistency of style has enhanced the efforts of the General Assembly to speak in a comprehensible, unambiguous voice; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the attorneys and staff of the Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau on the occasion of its One Hundredth Anniversary, commending its many years of service to the General Assembly and its dedication to the highest standards of professionalism, and that we express our appreciation of the Bureau's contributions to this State's rich heritage of public service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James W. Dodge, Executive Director of the Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau.
