HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the congregation of Hermon Baptist Church in Chicago on the occasion of the church's 125th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Hermon Baptist Church is the oldest African-American church on the north side of Chicago serving a diverse community; the church was established in 1888 by 13 singers, with Reverend J.W. Taylor serving as the church's first pastor until 1897; the church has been at its current location at 1754 North Clark Street in Chicago since 1902; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of its current pastor, Reverend Keith L. Edwards, Hermon Baptist Church continues its mission of "Serving, Assembling, and Encouraging" and providing spiritual growth to its membership and the community at large; and

WHEREAS, The congregation of Hermon Baptist Church will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the church with an event on October 27, 2013; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the congregation of Hermon Baptist Church on the occasion of the church's 125th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Hermon Baptist Church as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
