HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Illinois Soybean
4Association and the Illinois Soybean Growers on their milestone
5anniversaries; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) will be
7celebrating 100 years of soybean production in Illinois and 50
8years of the Illinois Soybean Growers (ISG) representing
9soybean farmers; and
 
10    WHEREAS, These milestones will be celebrated at the 2013
11Farm Progress Show, which will be held in Decatur and during
122013 and 2014 at various agriculture events in Illinois; the
13celebration will conclude during ISA's annual meeting in summer
142014; as part of the celebration, ISA will publish a special
15edition of Illinois Field & Bean, which will debut in November
162013 at the Illinois Commodity Conference; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The ISA has existed in one form or another since
18the mid-1960s; previously, the ISA operated as the umbrella
19organization for both the Illinois Soybean Program Operating
20Board (ISPOB) and the Land of Lincoln Soybean Association
21(LOLSA); and

1    WHEREAS, The Illinois soybean checkoff coordinates
2research, education, and promotion funded by checkoff dollars
3contributed by all Illinois soybean farmers; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The LOLSA was the predecessor to the ISG; the
5association was officially formed in 1964 to provide
6legislative representation for growers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During the same decade, the LOLSA and the Illinois
8Soybean Program Operating Board began supporting international
9marketing offices through the American Soybean Association and
10the ISPOB began funding production research; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Through the last few decades, a number of
12marketing, research, and promotion activities and legislative
13efforts have been added and refined by Illinois soybean
14growers; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1990, Illinois soybean leaders joined other
16State leaders to draft guidelines for a uniform national
17soybean checkoff; the effort was successful, and the checkoff
18is now a major source of funding for local, state, national,
19and international soy projects; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 2012, to provide a more efficient structure for
21Illinois soybean farmers to support their industry, the LOLSA

1and ISPOB were formally replaced by the Illinois Soybean
2Growers (ISG) and the Illinois Soybean Board (ISB); and
 
3    WHEREAS, The overall mission and vision of the ISA remains
4the same: Working together as ISA, ISG and ISB strive to enable
5Illinois soybean producers to be the most knowledgeable and
6profitable soybean producers around the world; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate the Illinois Soybean Association and the
10Illinois Soybean Growers on their milestone anniversaries, and
11on their continued work to support Illinois farmers and promote
12Illinois agriculture; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the Illinois Soybean Association and the Illinois
15Soybean Growers as an expression of our esteem and respect.
